There are 100 SWCDs across Iowa; one in each county, two in Pottawattamie County. Five commissioners are elected in each county to help guide soil and water conservation programs and will have the opportunity to influence state and national conservation programs. Iowa Code 161A empowers Iowa’s SWCDs.
Taylor County Commissioners set local priorities for natural resource protection, make decisions that will make our county a better place to live, increase local awareness of natural resource concerns and opportunities, and give back to our communities.
To accomplish this, commissioners:
- Hold monthly meetings
- Receive support from local, state, and national partners
- Obtain and share information on soil and water conservation programs, practices, and advancements
- Promote conservation through demonstration, education, and outreach
- Guide technical and financial resources to meet the unique local needs of the community
- Work with farmers and urban residents
